Please note that actual sizes are typically ½ inch less on the height and width and the depth is an actual ¾â€. This is common and typical of most air filters so that they properly fit into your unit. For example, a 20x25x1 filter will actually measure 19.5x24.5x.75 Sound good so far? Now we can get to the GOOD STUFF! I’m about to let you in on all the little details that determine the quality of a home air filter. Why do some brands and types make outrageous claims? What do all these percentages and MERV ratings mean? Why is there so much price difference when you compare filters in the store or on ebay? I’ve got the answers to all those questions and more right here…… 1. QUALITY MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION: · The filters offered here have a minimum of 18 pleats per foot across the face of the filter! Other filters available on ebay for less money (and sometimes even the same price) do not have this many pleats per foot across the face. In fact, you will notice as you’re browsing the filter auctions that most of the other filter sellers don’t even mention how many pleats per foot their filters have….because they know that they have less pleats and that’s how they offer a lower price, by investing less money into the construction of their filters! Why is this important? More pleats per foot = more surface area! And more surface area on your filter means that it lasts longer before it becomes plugged up with dust and dirt. So, buying cheaper filters (even if they are MERV 11 rated) that do not have at least 18 pleats per foot will require you to change them out more often. You’re really not saving money if you have to change them out a lot more frequently! Would you buy tires for your car that were 20% cheaper than the price of regular tires if you knew that they would only last about ½ as long as normal tires? Of course not! That’s the same principle behind these super high quality filters! More surface area of 18 pleats per foot also means that the airflow resistance will be lower. This saves you on energy costs since your fan/motor does not need to work nearly as hard to push air through the filter. The additional surface area in my filters allows the air to flow more freely through the filter. Consider trying to blow air through a straw, then imagine blowing air through a paper towel tube. It’s much easier to blow through the big tube because there is more area! My filters work the same way for your furnace & a/c unit, allowing it to pump a lot more air throughout your home and recirculate it through the filter more often throughout the day. This greatly affects the cleanliness of the air in your home! A great filter or a high MERV rated filter is virtually useless if your unit can not properly pump air through it enough to let it do its job. These filters have a .232 resistance rating at an airflow rate of 300 Feet Per Minute. If you’re not familiar with resistance values, that’s a very good rating. Like mentioned above, filters with less than 18 pleats per foot will have a higher resistance, meaning it’s much harder for your unit to push the air through! · The filters I offer in this auction utilize a MERV 11 rated filter media. This is the optimum rating for excellence in filtration when being used in a residential application. In a nutshell, the higher the MERV rating, the better the filter. Most home improvement warehouses and discount stores offer filters that have ratings from MERV 1 to MERV 11. The lower MERV rated filters aren’t as good at capturing dust and dirt particles as the higher MERV rated filters. Simplified, MERV ratings are determined by the “worst case†performance of a filter after 6 stages of dust loading. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value The particle sizes introduced to the filter during a MERV test range from 0.3 microns to 10 microns in size. By testing on such a wide range of sizes, this assures the filters performance over its lifetime. To put these particle sizes into perspective, a human hair is typically around 100 microns in diameter! Always look for a filter’s MERV rating when filter shopping and comparing. If a filter does not carry a MERV rating it is probably because it simply can not provide acceptable performance when subjected to the testing standards. Some filter salespeople will try to trick you with a very high “ARRESTANCE VALUE†of their filter…don’t fall for that trick! Arrestance is simply a measure of how much dust has been removed by a filter, by total weight. The test is very misleading because it reveals how well a filter will remove only large and heavy particles. It does nothing to help you determine how well the filter captures the smaller particles that cause lung irritation. Thus, just because you see a filter that advertises 99% arrestance, it doesn’t tell you anything about how well it captures small particles. This is a trick commonly used by someone trying to sell you a filter that doesn’t carry a MERV rating like an electrostatic washable filter, or any washable filter for that matter! · The filters I offer in this auction are made with the highest quality materials. The enclosing frame is not simply white cardboard like cheaper filters are made of. My factory uses a HIGH WET STRENGTH AND MOISTURE RESISTANT BEVERAGE BOARD. Ever notice that when regular paper or cardboard gets wet it tears very easily? My filters are made with material similar to what is used to make cases and cartons for beer and soft drinks. This material can become soaked from the condensation of the cold cans on a hot summer day and in turn get the outer casing wet. Your pop cans and beer bottles never tear through this on the way home because it too is made from a HIGH WET STRENGTH AND MOISTURE RESISTANT BEVERAGE BOARD. Super tough and super strong! · The filter media (fancy name for the filter material) is made of 100% synthetic graduated density and is electrostatically charged. It is then bonded to a 30 gauge galvanized, corrosion resistant, expanded metal support grid with an effective open area of 96%. This filter media is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, does not absorb moisture and will not support microbial growth. This is a more expensive filter material than other pleated filter manufacturers use that is made of a cotton/polyester blend. These filters have proven to provide a high initial and sustained efficiency with regards to small particle capture. · These filters will be custom made just for you after you purchase from this auction. This ensures that you get brand new and factory fresh filters! Not someone’s leftover close-out filters that have been sitting around in a dark/damp warehouse for who knows how long! 2.
