Description

No Reserve Auction: 2 Four Foot Narrow Spectrum Fluorescent Bulbs Optimized for Plant Growth. (F40T12 or 40 watt)  Why pay for light your plants can’t See? Use our  Narrow spectrum bulbs optimized for plant growth. It produces exactly the light a plant wants.   Plants are green because they reflect green light back. Yet conventional grow lights (High Pressure Sodium (HPS) , metal halide (MH) and conventional fluorescents were first developed for humans. Because we see green light the best, these sources are very heavy in the yellow-green spectrum. What a waste! Standard fluorescent grow lights aren’t much better. They still generate lots of green light so house plants look nice. A common misconception is that the ideal color of light for plant growth is sunlight. Much of the light spectrum of sunlight is actually wasted by plants. Again, plants are green because they reflect the green light back. The popular "Grow & Show" wide spectrum type of plant light sold in stores may make foliage look nice and green. But they are not efficient at making plants grow. You can verify in a standard encyclopedia that plants use red and blue energy for photosynthesis. On the other hand, Optimized Narrow Spectrum fluorescents produce light exactly where chlorophyll is most sensitive. University Studies prove much higher fruit production and growth rates. (Documented below!)  North Carolina State University conducted experiments with radish, lettuce, and milo to determine the optimum composition of wavelengths for optimum growth. Dry matter weights were measured. These "optimum compositions" are the basis of narrow spectrum grow lights. The same experiments compared the performance of narrow spectrum grow lights, wide spectrum grow and show lights, and a mix of incandescent and cool white fluorescent light. The narrow spectrum fluorescent was definitely superior at inducing plant growth.                                                                                  Radish root                 Milo (a grain plant) Wide Spectrum Grow Light                                  130 mg/plant                  240 mg/plant Narrow Spectrum Grow Light                               240 mg/plant                  665 mg/plant This was confirmed in later experiments comparing wide and narrow spectrum grow lights. Gloxinia plants grew faster and had 50% more blossoms than plants grown under wide spectrums. Corn, lettuce, and tomatoes showed 50 to 60 % higher dry matter production than the same plants grown under wide spectrums. Tiny Tim tomatoes blossomed 1 week earlier.  A week later they had 6 blossoms per plant, while the plants under the wide spectrum grow lights only had 2 blossoms per plant. The tomato plants also produced more:                                                         Ripe fruit          Immature Fruit Wide spectrum grow light         187 g/plant             415 g/plant Narrow spectrum grow light      340 g/plant             519 g/plant As you can see, the very best light for growth is the narrow spectrum fluorescent! Common questions about narrow spectrum fluorescents. Q: What is the color Temperature of narrow spectrum fluorescents? A: Color temperature ratings don't  Mean much with narrow spectrum fluorescents. They make more very deep red light than traditional low color temperature sources like HPS. While at the same time they actually make much more blue light than high color temperature sources like metal halide. What’s interesting is that the type of deep red light that is most nutritious for plants is barely perceptible by the human eye. So paradoxically, these bulbs look bluish to the eye even though they actually make more red light than blue. Q: Do I need the daylight bulbs or a metal halide spectrum for vegetative growth and then a second set of warm (HPS -like ) bulbs for flowering? A: No. The narrow spectrum bulbs are the best all around bulbs for growing, fruiting, and flowering. You see, HPS lamps make lots of energy that plants need for flowering, but the defective HPS light spectrum produces lanky, stringy growth. (HPS is the same bulb used in street lights) So people will often start plants under a white light like metal halide to encourage compact growth even though metal halide bulbs are dimmer. But with narrow spectrum fluorescents, you don’t have to compromise. Light is generated just where plants can most effectively use it. Q: What about FluorX spectrum? A: The FluorX spectrum is actually identical to our sunlight simulating 5K lamp. It can be used to provide side lighting in HPS systems which are defective in blue light. People have gone crazy over the brilliant fluorX. (I use it in most of our shop and barn lighting fixtures) But while it looks really bright to the eye, its not the best spectrum for growing plants. Specifications: These bulbs fit the most common types of shop lights. These are 4 foot, 40 watt bulbs that are about 1.5 inches in diameter. It will also replace the energy saving 25 or 34 watt bulbs of the same length. This auction is for the bigger of the two bulbs shown. (The smaller bulb is a T8 bulb) If you need more than 2 bulbs, please check our store - we have more available there - we also have these bulbs in the 4' T8 size, F32T8, and also in 8' High Output, F96T12/HO, 110 watt. See our other listings. We list complete fixtures using these lamps too. Extra bulb orders will ship for free, up to case quanties (25-40 bulbs) So stock up while you have the chance.
